SUPERGEN has an educational as well as a research remit and the associated doctoral training programme will ensure that PhD students attached to Supergen will receive targeted training in their chosen field of research from the most eminent specialists in the field. The programme includes quarterly training sessions and close association between the students and the professional researchers involved in the main Supergen research.
This programme was conceived because it was recognised that an accelerating development of the marine renewable energy industry will require advanced specialists if the intellectual and technical drive is to be maintained.
The Supergen programme, in its first phase, generated more than 130 peer-reviewed public-domain outputs describing issues from resource assessment to mooring design and macroscopic economic modelling. This represented an unprecedented return from an investment of £2.7million, which is much less than the public investment in even quite small system development projects.
