THE Marcliffe Hotel was the venue for this year’s Energy Institute annual dinner, which took place last Thursday, February 25.
Nearly 400 guests attended the dinner, including Sir Ian Wood, who, along with other top table guests, including energy banker Matt Simmons, was piped in by Adam Butler of Portlethen Academy. The Portlethen Academy Ceilidh Band also played for guests in the foyer.
Each course of the meal was punctuated by a different speaker. They were Paul Lynch, British consul general in Houston; Matt Simmons, Simmons and Company, and Sir Ian, who delivered the Cadman Lecture.
Fundraising activities also took place in aid of the Starehe Boys’ & Girls’ Centres, Nairobi, Kenya; Help for Heroes; Sparks, and Care International.
The evening ended on a high note with guests being entertained by after-dinner speaker and comic Len Murray.
