US OIL and gas giant ConocoPhillips has unveiled a new president for its upstream interests in the UK.
The man now at the helm is Paul Warwick, who first joined the pre-merged Houston-based group in 1981 and spent the next 16 years in a string of roles in operations in the UK.
Mr Warwick, who was born in the UK, also had spells at Gulfstream Resources Canada, Conoco Energy Nigeria and Gulf Indonesia Resources before being made president in Indonesia for his current employer following the 2002 merger between Conoco and Phillips.
ConocoPhillips also announced the retirement of UK managing director Archie Kennedy after almost 30 years of service.
He has also stepped down as one of the joint chairmen at industry body Oil and Gas UK (OGUK), which has appointed John Gallagher, Shell’s technical vice-president for Europe, to replace him. OGUK chief executive Malcolm Webb said yesterday: “Archie Kennedy has been an excellent co-chairman and supporter of our association, but in John Gallagher we have a tailor-made replacement.”
Mr Gallagher said he was looking forward to helping to steer OGUK through the current financial climate, adding: “We face the most challenging times in the North Sea that I can remember. OGUK, through its relationships with government, has a key role in ensuring that we come through this downturn as a strong and competitive industry.”
