MELROSE Resources, the Edinburgh-based oil and gas operator, said yesterday it had successfully drilled a well to appraise its Kaliakra gas discovery in Bulgaria.
The company said the second well on Kaliakra had encountered 67ft of net gas pay, substantially thicker than the net pay of 31ft found in the nearby discovery well, and the appraisal well had been suspended for future use as a development well. It added that the field’s most likely reserves were 57billion cu ft and the well results also had a positive impact on other discoveries and exploration prospects in the area.
Chief executive David Thomas said: “The results effectively increase the combined reserves estimate for Kavarna, Kavarna East and Kaliakra to 100billion cu ft.”
