Aberdeen company Altra Energy said yesterday it was positioned for significant growth and was aiming to create about 200 jobs over the next three years.
The majority of these jobs will be in Aberdeen, but some will be international.
Altra said it had already begun the process and was recruiting 40 engineers of all ages and experience in Aberdeen, where all of its 45 staff are employed.
The engineering consultant said growth would come following a restructure of the business and through new contracts with Talisman, Maersk, Halliburton and BG Group worth a combined multimillion-pound figure.
Altra, a consultancy which specialises in process, safety and structural engineering services for the global oil and gas industry, also said it was aiming to increase its £5million turnover to £25million by 2013.
The firm is a subsidiary of Subsea Technology Group, which in turn is owned by Norwegian private-equity company HitecVision.
It is now repositioning itself in the marketplace as a facility-support and design business, with a focus on delivering engineering services in three main areas: project work, minor modifications and consultancy.
Altra has also formed a strategic alliance with Mechserv, the Arbroath-based oilfield engineering company, to provide project-management, construction and mechanical engineering capabilities which will help Altra to take on large-scale projects.
Daniel McGowan, managing director of Altra Energy, said: “There is no denying that the last 12 months have been challenging for many in the oil and gas industry and we had a difficult year, however, we took the opportunity to restructure the business, focusing on larger, longer-term contracts from front-end engineering through to start-up field developments.
“We are now well positioned for growth with a robust and ambitious strategy centred on Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
“We are well on target to increase turnover to £10million this financial year and are currently recruiting 40 engineers to work on long-term, high-profile projects.”
Altra Energy operates from bases in Aberdeen, Stavanger and Copenhagen to provide engineering services to clients including Maersk, Shell, BP, Talisman, BG International and Nexen.
The consultancy relocated to 16,700 square feet of new offices in Aberdeen’s Union Plaza last year.
