Industry body Oil and Gas UK (OGUK) has named the finalists for the latest edition of its annual awards.
Sponsored by Shell UK, the 2010 accolades are being awarded in three categories for individuals and two for business excellence.
The individual prizes include one for overall excellence, honouring outstanding achievement by young people in the UK offshore oil and gas sector.
It will be contested by Mark Arnold of Craig Group, Suzanne Coogan from Shell UK and Samantha Large of Shell UK Exploration and Production.
A young technician of the year award recognises the vital contribution of the industry’s burgeoning talent.
Finalists in this category are Sean Cain of Shell UK, Kevin Dunn at BP and ThinJack’s Michael Smith.
The mentoring accolade is aimed at highlighting the key role mentors play in passing on knowledge and expertise to the next generation of energy workers.
It will go to either of Gill Cowlam at BP, Michael Hutcheon of Wood Group Engineering (North Sea) or jointly to Sarita McVicar Wright and Claire Jones at Schlumberger Oilfield UK.
OGUK’s two awards for excellent corporate performance honour achievements in people development and business efficiency.
Champion Technologies, Halliburton UK and Wood Group Engineering (North Sea) are all vying for the people development award.
Aker Solutions, Hydratight and RBG are the business efficiency finalists.
OGUK chief executive Malcolm Webb said: “The Oil and Gas UK Awards give us the opportunity to recognise the outstanding contributions of a new generation of industry employees and excellent corporate performance.
“It is also a time to celebrate the talent, technical skills and energy of our wider oil and gas community, whose efforts enable us to drive the industry forward.”
All the winners will be revealed at a ceremony in the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on November 4, with Energy Minister Charles Hendry making the presentations.
