AKER Solutions has won a contract with Eni Norge for the design and supply of an on-vessel mooring system for the Goliat floating production, storage and offloading vessel in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea. The total contract value is in the order of $24million.
The contract comprises the provision of 14 Pusnes fairlead chain stoppers and three moveable Pusnes windlasses for 165mm chain size – which, in layman’s terms, is massive.
The Norwegian group has developed the fairlead chain stopper design, which is described as an innovative on-vessel mooring solution with several advantages.
The fairlead chain stopper constrains the mooring load to a limited area on the hull on which it is installed.
Its long, pivoting stopper arm is said to reduce chain wear and increase the fatigue life of the chain. The design apparently eliminates the need for reinforcements at the deck level, thereby decreasing the overall weight.
Leif Haukom, president of Aker Solutions’ offshore mooring systems business, said of the contract award: “We are proud to be selected as maker of the on-vessel mooring equipment for the first production unit made for the Barents Sea. This contract underlines Aker Solutions’ strong position for mooring systems to installations in harsh environments such as the Barents Sea.”
The equipment will be manufactured in Norway, Poland and South Korea, and delivery will take place during 2011. The hull for a can-shaped production unit (FPSO) is in the early stages of construction in South Korea.
