ABERDEEN-BASED Balmoral Offshore Engineering (BOE) was presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise by Aberdeen Lord Provost Peter Stephen on the company’s stand yesterday.
The award in the international trade category was made in recognition of an increase in global sales of almost 700% between 2007 and 2009, with 90%-plus of manufactured products now being shipped overseas.
BOE provides technically advanced buoyancy, elastomer and insulation products for use in challenging deepwater environments.
The company’s products are used in the oil and gas fields of the Gulf of Mexico, west Africa, south-east Asia and South America.
Balmoral Group employs around 350 people; 300 of them at BOE.
Chairman and managing director Jim Milne said: “To earn recognition at this level for our international effort is very pleasing indeed. I am delighted for the staff at BOE, as everyone has played an important role in earning this prestigious award.
“Looking to the future, we have just completed expanded manufacturing capacity in Aberdeen while an upgrade of Europe’s most comprehensive privately owned subsea test centre is about to be finalised.
“Our aim is to provide the industry with a single source for all its buoyancy, insulation and elastomer product requirements.”
