International engineering and project-management company Amec is planning to recruit nearly 100 people after winning a £140million North Sea contract.
Amec said yesterday it was to up the number of BG Group platforms on which it works from one to three.
It had a contract for the Armada installation already and is now to add North Everest and Lomond.
The three-year deal was signed last week.
Wood Group had held the North Everest and Lomond contracts until now.
John Pearson, managing director of Amec’s Europe and west Africa business, said: “I am proud of our proven performance, safety record and drive for continuous improvement, all of which I am sure have helped us secure this award.
“We look forward to another three years of excellent delivery for BG Group and for the North Sea.”
Amec had 160 people working for BG and this is now to increase to about 370.
In addition to 90 new recruits in Aberdeen and offshore, most of the 120 Wood Group employees on North Everest and Lomond are expected to transfer across to Amec.
The company said it would provide engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and project management for BG.
Several projects come under the new contract, including subsea tiebacks from the Gaupe and North West Seymour wells to the Armada platform hub and a new subsea tieback to the North Everest hub. It also includes a feasibility study for the continued development of the Armada platform as a processing hub.
Amec said that, to increase offshore capacity, BG has invested in new additional living quarters on North Everest.
Amec operations director Alan Johnstone said: “Recently, our BG Group contract team celebrated their latest achievement of reaching over four million man-hours without a lost time incident.
“This new award is testament to their excellent performance and to the trust BG Group has placed in us to deliver for the future.”
Amec employs about 1,000 people in Aberdeen. It has a worldwide workforce of around 23,000 people.
