AN ABERDEEN-BASED hydraulic-engineering company has completed an upgrade project for Diamond Offshore Drilling (UK).
The contract – worth about £200,000 – involved DE Hydraulics providing a new hydraulic power unit for semisubmersible drilling rig Ocean Guardian.
The project, which took about five months, saw the company design and build the equipment at its Dyce base, before DE workers travelled to Invergordon, where the rig was berthed, to instal and commission the unit.
The Ocean Guardian is now on its way to drill wells in the Falkland Islands. DE operations manager Stewart Dalgarno said: “We’re delighted to have concluded this project, which provided us with the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise at each stage of the production process: from designing and building the unit, to installing and commissioning it onboard the Ocean Guardian.”
The successful completion of the project follows DE revealing first-year turnover of more than £1million and announcing that, in the coming 12 months, it aims to increase this figure by 50%.
As part of the firm’s growth strategy, it also plans to expand its workforce from the current 13.
