A LEADING figure in the global energy business has been appointed as the new chairman of the Offshore Contractors’ Association.
John Pearson is managing director of AMEC’s natural resources business for Europe and west Africa.
He takes over from PSN chief executive Bob Keiller, who has held the OCA post for three years.
The chairmanship is returning to AMEC for the second time in recent years. It was held previously by its former oil and gas managing director Neil Bruce.
Mr Pearson, who has been with AMEC for 19 years, was delighted to have been elected by his peers to take over “this important role” for the next three years.
He said: “We stand at a challenging point in the history of the oil and gas industry. More than ever, I feel that industry bodies like OCA have an important role to play in optimising the future, not just for our members but for all stakeholders.
“I’d also like to pay tribute to Bob Keiller for his leadership over the last three years, and to recognise the efforts of OCA chief executive Bill Murray and his team for all their hard work.”
Mr Pearson has 24 years’ experience in oil, gas and petrochemicals. Mr Murray said: “Bob has deftly guided the association through some major issues in his term as chairman.
“Under John’s leadership, our members will continue to face up to current challenges and emerge stronger.”
The Aberdeen-based OCA is the lead representative body for the UK’s oil and gas contracting and supply sector and looks after the interests of about 60 companies.
