BG Group yesterday signed an £5billion deal with US energy firm Cheniere Energy to export shale gas supplies from the country to the rest of the world for the first time.
The deal paves the way for terminal developer Cheniere to finance what could be the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plant built in the US in nearly 50 years.
US gas output has recently hit record highs.
BG Group, one of the world’s biggest LNG players, has access to import markets across the globe.
Sabine Pass will have an initial capacity to export 9million tonnes per year.
BG’s shares closed up 1.23%.
