SCOTLAND’S renewable energy expertise will today come under the spotlight at the world’s largest offshore wind trade event – the European Offshore Wind Conference (EOWC) in Stockholm, Sweden.
Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG), which acts as a catalyst to encourage the growth of the renewable energy industry in Aberdeen city and shire, said it would engage with some of the industry’s key global players in offshore wind at the event, which runs until Wednesday.
AREG is to profile Aberdeen city and shire’s offshore wind capabilities as part of the UK/Scotland pavilion at EOWC, while members who will also have a presence include SeaEnergy Renewables, Green Ocean Energy, Wood Group, Reflex Marine, Douglas Westwood, Ernst & Young, DNV, Senergy and Subocean.
Iain Todd, of AREG, said: “Offshore wind is beginning to flourish as an industry and this is evident by the fact that EOWC has doubled in size within two years. Scotland, and indeed Aberdeen city and shire, is among the key players in the offshore wind market. Scotland and Europe have each been set the same target of achieving 20% of their energy from renewable sources by 2020.
“Aberdeen city and shire is playing a pivotal role in positioning Scotland at the forefront of the offshore wind industry by capitalising on its oil and gas expertise and enterprising approach to business.
“One of AREG’s key projects will be under the spotlight at the event, namely its plans to create a European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre, off the coast at Aberdeen, which would support Europe’s major plans for offshore wind power generation.
“The Scottish Government has also launched its Scottish European Green Energy Centre in Aberdeen to leverage the region’s capabilities, including offshore wind.”
Mr Todd is attending EOWC with AREG’s international trade executive Sarah Hillyear.
Nial McCollam, managing director of Senergy Alternative Energy, will discuss industry development and new employment opportunities at a seminar.
