LUNDIN Petroleum has started its Tellus exploration well in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, on block 16/1.
The Tellus prospect is located immediately to the north of the company’s Luno field.
The main objective of the well is to test Jurassic/Triassic age sandstones and conglomerates in a separate fault segment.
Lundin’s pre-drill estimate is that Tellus may hold gross unrisked prospective resources of 40million barrels oil equivalent.
Success would provide additional volumes of oil for the overall existing Luno development.
Lundin is operator of block 16/1, and holds a 50% interest in the licence.
Its partners are Wintershall Norge with 30% and RWE Dea Norge with 20%.
