BP said yesterday its strategy team was to be taken over by investor-relations chief Fergus Macleod.
The appointment was made after Ian Smale, the oil major’s former head of strategy, decided to retire.
A spokesman downplayed suggestions the changes were connected to worries about BP’s direction in the wake of last year’s giant oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
