Energy companies have strengthened links with Brazil thanks to a trade mission involving energy and engineering umbrella organisation North Scotland Industries Group (NSIG).
It organised the mission with Scottish Development International (SDI) to identify opportunities in the South American country for those members interested in developing their business there.
The group included three NSIG member companies Orion Group, Opus Plus and Mowat Technical and Design Services.
The delegation visited Wood Group and Aker Solutions to gain an insight into operations and attended presentations from tax experts, Brazilian oil major Petrobras and oil and natural gas company OGX. The group also attended networking events organised by SDI and UK Trade and Investment.
NSIG had discussions with Onip, the national organisation of the Brazilian petroleum industry, which expressed an interest in finding Scottish businesses that were keen to work with Brazilian companies.
NSIG chief executive Ian Couper said: “The trade mission to Brazil was successful for both our members and NSIG. From our perspective I was delighted that we had positive discussions with Onip and gained valuable contacts for the future.
“A number of companies could benefit from operating in the country, particularly if they have innovative technology or new and advantageous services or products.
“The Brazilian market, though huge just now, is expected to grow faster over the coming years.
“I would strongly urge members to consider the potential Brazil has to offer, and I will be seeking to have meetings with members that I believe will benefit from involvement in this market.
“As a result of the excellent feedback from the companies on the trade mission, I am looking at the possibility of returning early next year to build on the relationships created during my visit.”
