A Scot who is one of the bosses at international oil and gas facility-service provider Petrofac is to retire.
John Methven is the Aberdeen-based group director of health, safety, security and environment and integrity assurance. He is to stand down in May, the month he turns 60.
Group chief executive Ayman Asfari said yesterday: “John’s operational experience and industry knowledge has been a great asset to Petrofac.
“His leadership of our horizon-zero safety campaign has been invaluable and its success is testament to his hard work and dedication.”
With more than 10,000 employees, Petrofac operates out of five operational centres, including Aberdeen, and a further 19 offices worldwide.
Mr Methven has worked for more than 30 years in the oil and gas industry, after serving as a seagoing engineer in the Merchant Navy until 1977. He then joined BP and was involved in the early days of production from the Forties field.
Mr Methven moved to Hamilton Oil in 1980, where he was at the forefront of floating production technology, helping to develop marginal oil fields.
He joined Petrofac in late 1998 as operations manager for the Banff floating production vessel and took the project to first oil and beyond.
He represents Petrofac on the Oil and Gas UK contractors’ council and was previously a director of the Offshore Contractors’ Asso-ciation. A Fellow of the Energy Institute, Mr Methven is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
