More than 100 representatives from Aberdeen’s oil and gas supply chain were told yesterday by GDF SUEZ E&P UK about “huge” business opportunities with the operator.
The event, held at Pittodrie Stadium, saw GDF SUEZ operations manager Rob Buchan call on Aberdeen’s supply chain to provide the solutions required to help grow the business in the North Sea.
He said: “When we entered the North Sea, we took stakes but did not operate the assets.
“Now as we move forward, we are planning on operating at least 50% of our assets and this requires the support of Scotland’s supply chain to do so. We need a number of services to support us develop our North Sea interests, in particular construction and subsea services to support the development of a number of key offshore assets.
“There is a huge opportunity for companies in Aberdeen to engage with GDF SUEZ E&P UK and we are keen to speak to those who think they can add value to our operations.”
Derek Turner, the operator’s newly appointed service and supply-chain manager, said: “We have a number of tenders being issued in November and we hope to see Aberdeen’s service companies engage with us. We rely on the supply chain for solutions and we need companies with North Sea experience to come in as an extension of our own business; a very important extension.”
Yesterday’s event was organised by the Energy Industries Council.
The Press and Journal reported in July that GDF SUEZ – one of the world’s largest energy companies – had just set up a base in the centre of Aberdeen and was looking to recruit up to 80 people in the year ahead.
The Paris-based company was pouring £6million into establishing a UK exploration and production operations centre at the city’s Union Plaza development, just off Union Street.
