Hundreds of pupils from schools across Aberdeen City and Shire are being given the chance to explore the world of oil & gas at an innovative, interactive careers event to be staged at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
About 450 senior pupils are expected to attend Energise Your Future on June 26, when they will get the chance to manoeuvre specialist underwater vehicles in a giant water tank, put their agility skills to the test on a vertical climbing wall and try their hand on an offshore drilling simulator.
Engineering challenges and workshops throughout the event will help young people discover the huge number of opportunities in a variety of careers the oil & gas industry has to offer.
Energise Your Future is sponsored by Marathon Oil UK and organised by an alliance of partners, including OPITO – The Oil & Gas Academy; Shell; The Energy Institute; Careers Scotland; WSCA, and the Offshore Europe Education Day team. It is the first interactive careers event for the energy sector to be staged in the Scottish north-east and is expected to be a hit, especially playing with baby ROVs.
University and college students will also be able to attend the exhibition when it is thrown open to the general public later in the day.
OPITO chief executive David Doig said: “A key part of the Oil and Gas Academy’s remit is to work with education and academia, as well as our alliance partners, to proactively support the industry’s learning needs.
“There is a wide range of different career and lifestyle opportunities within the oil & gas industry, from catering and administration to engineering, drilling, accounting and geoscience. This event will, for the first time, provide stimulating and fun, practical experiences and information on the huge scope of employment opportunities to a new generation.”
Energise Your Future will be open to schoolchildren from 9.30am until 2.30pm and then to the general public from 3pm until 6pm. And the date is June 26. Get it in your diary.
