THE managing director of RTH Lubbers UK International Transport is predicting that the firm could see its Aberdeen turnover and staff numbers double within two to three years. Tony Tailford said the Dutch-owned oil and gas equipment transport specialist had opened in the Granite City 10 years ago, but even three years ago had a staff of just 10.
The Aberdeen branch now has 26 staff and a turnover of £8million out of the group’s UK business of £12million. He added that the group had a turnover of £30million.
Mr Tailford said: “I foresee our growth in the UK coming mainly in Aberdeen, where turnover should double in the next two to three years and our payroll should increase to between 40 and 50.
“We have invested £2-£2.5million in Aberdeen in the past two or three years, moving to new warehouses, offices and yard space at Altens Industrial Estate in April 2008 and growing to a fleet of 20 vehicles in Aberdeen out of a UK total of 40.”
The group has 90 vehicles, 200 trailers and 200 employees across Europe, at 10 bases in the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Rumania and the UK to serve the oil and gas industry.
Andy Smith, who has more than 35 years’ experience in oil and gas international transport, has just joined as general manager to lead expansion in Aberdeen.
He said: “I have seen and admired how RTH Lubbers has grown. I wanted to be part of that growth story and the firm has given me the opportunity to develop the business in Aberdeen.”
“We specialise in oil and gas equipment, but expansion may take us into new areas such as transport of wind turbines, for example.”
