Aker Solutions said today it is to tap the Swedish engineering market in order to grow its subsea business.
The firm, whose new subsea business boss is based in Aberdeen, has opened an office in Gothenburg.
It said having access to a large base of engineering resources with appropriate technology know-how would be vital for the firm to meet its ambitious growth targets.
Aberdeen-based Alan Brunnen recently became the first UK employee to join Aker’s executive management team, which is tasked with leading subsea within the group after the division was restructured.
Mr Brunnen has headed up the Aberdeen subsea arm since the beginning of 2009.
“There will be plenty of interesting opportunities, both on the Norwegian continental shelf and internationally, in the years to come,” Jesper Ericsson, managing director of the Gothenburg office, said today.
He added: “Establishing the Gothenburg office is one tool to facilitate for this growth. Our colleagues in Sweden will work on prospects and projects across the globe.”
The Gothenburg office currently houses a team of 13 engineers, however, Aker expects it will have approximately 50 staff by year-end 2012.
Employees at the Swedish office are to provide engineering and design services for most subsea production system technologies and products offered by Aker , including subsea trees, manifolds and structures, tie-in systems, work-over systems, pumps and processing systems.
The office will also offer tender and research and development support.
