ABERDEEN Renewable Energy Group (AREG) is to host an event for businesses looking to capitalise on China’s renewables market.
It is organising the windpower in China masterclass on Thursday, August 13, in association with Scottish Development International (SDI), to help give local businesses an insight into the Chinese market and its potential opportunities.
The seminar is to be held at Aberdeen University from 10am to 1pm.
Guests will include Wendy Liu, of the China Britain Business Council, and Ian Ross, a senior international business executive at SDI.
Other speakers include Paul O’Brien, SDI’s senior executive for renewables development, and John MacAskill, UK renewables business manager at Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services.
The event is being held ahead of a planned trade mission to China in October, which is being organised by AREG, SDI and UK Renewables. Sarah Hillyear, AREG’s international trade executive, said: “China is not only becoming a global leader in renewable energy technologies and investment, but is rapidly emerging as the dominant nation in wind energy. The country doubled its wind energy capacity in 2007 and now has plans for new offshore windfarms.
“It is also on target to become the largest manufacturer of wind energy equipment by the end of this year.
“The country is interested in a number of supply chain sectors, but is particularly interested in wind resource assessment and offshore windfarm development. If these opportunities are acted upon quickly by our local companies, Scottish expertise could have a pivotal role to play in this future growth.
“These two areas of Chinese interest mirror AREG’s activities here in Aberdeen, with work already under way on the proposed Aberdeen offshore windfarm and wind testing deployment centre.”
Businesses wishing to attend the seminar or the trade mission should contact AREG on 01224 814620.
