HOUSTON: Ensco International has decided to build a fifth Ensco 8500 Series ultra-deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig at the Keppel FELS shipyard in Singapore at a cost of some $515million.
The company is nearing completion of the first of its Ensco 8500 Series ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rigs. Ensco 8500 is expected to be delivered late in the third quarter of 2008 and start work in early-2009.
The other three 8500 Series rigs are currently scheduled for delivery in Singapore in the first and fourth quarters of 2009 (Ensco 8501 and Ensco 8502, respectively) and in the third quarter of 2010 (Ensco 8503).
The decision to construct the fifth 8500 Series semi is based on the need to meet the unprecedented demand for deepwater drilling.
