Scottish oil and gas service companies have celebrated their successful trip to Norway for a record-breaking Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) show.
About 47,000 people from all over the world congregated in Stavanger for the 19th biennial event.
It was the biggest turnout to date – 5,000 more than the previous record set in 2008 – and came despite heavy rain which soaked delegates at the start of the week.
The four-day show, which finished yesterday afternoon, featured 1,351 exhibiting companies from 32 nations.
More than 70 UK companies – many of them Scottish – were among the exhibitors.
Gary Wilson, director of business development for Ferguson Modular, part of Inverurie-based Ferguson Group, said last night of ONS: “We made a lot of new connections with both UK and internationally based companies and will be following up on several leads in the coming weeks.”
Aberdeen energy service company Senergy stood out at the show with its restored 1950s Airstream trailer.
Chief executive James McCallum said: “This year’s ONS has been particularly successful for Senergy in that we have attracted a lot of new business interest and also announced the appointment of Oystein Roti as managing director of our growing Norway operations.”
Jim Green, managing director of Glasgow and Aberdeen mobile logistics system developer Spartan Solutions, said: “This has been an exceptional ONS for us, with more than 35 new business prospects. The success of ONS underlines our intention to establish a presence in Norway, where interest in our services has increased significantly.”
Aberdeen-based energy consultancy Xodus Group reported significant new business opportunities at ONS after successfully penetrating the Norwegian market.
The firm also formed a strategic relationship recently with Ramboll, an oil and gas engineering company with a long-established presence in Norway.
Director Stuart Barr said: “Our alliance with Ramboll combined with our innovative engineering strengths has created a successful market offering for the likes of Statoil, Lundin and Talisman.
“ONS has been a fantastic platform to build on these relationships and we have received a considerable amount of interest.”
New technologies on show by well flow-management expert Expro were reported to have attracted significant interest at ONS.
Expro spokeswoman Kay Drummond said: “Again ONS has proved to be an important platform for us to engage with existing and potential customers and to discuss with them the benefits brought to the global market by our latest technologies.”
Energy and engineering body North Scotland Industries Group said ONS had been a valuable networking opportunity.
Business-development and events consultant Angela Wilson said: “We were able to make a number of significant links with trade organisations and companies from Norway, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands interested in hearing more about our member companies in the Highlands and islands and Grampian.”
