The deepwater drilling rig Leiv Eiriksson has been picked to work offshore Norway from late 2012 or early 2013 under a new three-year contract, its owner Ocean Rig said today.
The rig is currently working in the Falklands where it was recently posted to drill for Borders & Southern Petroleum and Falkland Oil and Gas.
Its new contract, with a consortium co-ordinated by Rig Management Norway for drilling on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, will be for 15 wells.
The contract also includes three options of six wells each that have to be exercised well in advance of the expiry of the firm period.
Prior to moving out to the Falklands, the rig had been working for Edinburgh-based Cairn Energy offshore Greenland.
Ocean Rig owns and operates nine offshore ultra deepwater drilling units, comprising of two ultra deepwater semisubmersible drilling rigs and seven ultra deepwater drillships, three of which remain to be delivered to the company during 2013.
