The Norwegian government is preparing to commission further seismic surveys over the area of the Barents Sea that was previously claimed by both Norway and Russia.
Now that the area has been delimited and a maritime boundary drawn between the Norwegian and Russian sectors of the Barents Sea, the plan is to start by surveying the northernmost part of the area. The first seismic surveys in the southern part of the Norwegian sector took place last summer and early indications suggest there are oil and gas resources present.
