Oil and gas decommissioning issues will be in the spotlight at an event in Aberdeen next week.
Decom North Sea (DNS), the Granite City-based industry forum set up three years ago to maximise business opportunities from decommissioning, said its step-by step overview would offer guidance on the whole process from start to end.
Brian Nixon, the forum’s chief executive, said: “Many operators are still planning decommissioning projects or are in the early stages of projects, so it is imperative that everyone is kept updated.
“This event will also consider the prevalence of asbestos during decommissioning projects. It is a common problem and one of the biggest and most costly issues to deal with on production facilities being decommissioned.”
Jon McGregor and Mark Rhodes, respectively risk and safety service manager and asbestos manager at Bureau Veritas, the international verification, certification and integrity-management specialist, will give presentations during Wednesday’s event, in the Palm Court Hotel.
DNS now has more than 180 members and, with annual decommissioning expenditure in the North Sea forecast to top £1billion within a few years, is working to tackle areas of weakness in the supply chain.
