Cairn Energy is making preparations to start a 1,500sq km 3D seismic survey over part of its recently awarded Gulf of Valencia permits in the Spanish sector of the Western Mediterranean Sea.
The Scottish company said that the survey will be carried out on its Albufera, Benifayo, Gandia, Alta Mar-1 and Alta Mar-2 blocks, which have a total area of 3,992sq km and lie in water depths ranging 50-1,000m plus.
It said that the seismic data is to be shot, processed, and interpreted before yearend to provide the basis for exploration of the most promising prospects detected.
