The chairman of development agency Scottish Enterprise (SE) said yesterday businesses across the country could learn from the north-east oil and gas sector.
Crawford Gillies said he could not think of any other Scottish industry which had been as successful as energy firms in exporting skills and expertise across the world.
During a visit to Aberdeen-based oil and gas consultant Xodus, Mr Gillies said SE wanted to help more companies in the north-east and in Scotland to achieve the same level of international success.
He said: “Through Scottish Development International, we have worked with more than 160 companies in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to support their internationalisation plans.
“That is great, but we would like to be doing even more in the future.
“I would love to find ways of using the international experience gained in the oil and gas industry in other sectors. We need to transplant that knowledge into the rest of the Scottish economy.”
