RWE Dea Norge said today it had made a gas discovery in the Norwegian Sea, boosting the commercial prospects of the Zidane field.
It said drilling on the Zidane 2 prospect with the semi-submersible drilling rig West Alpha put preliminary estimates of the size of the discovery at 141-459 billion standard cubic feet of recoverable gas.
Zidane 2 is about 2 miles from RWE’s Zidane 1 discovery well and about 9.3 miles north-west of the Heidrun field.
“By developing Zidane, we will get our first own-operated Norwegian field on stream and we have high ambitions in both exploration and production for the years to come”, said Ralf to Baben, chief operating officer, RWE Dea.
RWE Dea Norge, the operator, has 40% equity in the field, with Edison International Norway Branch holding 20%, Maersk Oil Norway 20% and OMV Norge 20%.
