Providence Resources has identified the presence of two prospects in its LO11/12 license about 70 km offshore western Ireland in the Slyne Basin.
The Kylemore prospect lies some 20km southwest of the Corrib gas field. The most recent mapping of the prospect indicates that it is structurally analogous to Corrib. Current data points to potential gas in place of up to 228billion cu.ft.
The Shannon structure is situated 10km southwest of Corrib. Enterprise Oil (now part of Shell) drilled the 18/25-2 exploration well on Shannon in 1999, however the Corrib analogue reservoir was not encountered. Enterprise’s pre-drill map demonstrates a significant structural closure covering 23sq km . . . much larger than Corrib with gross reserves of 1trillion cu.ft. Providence and its licence partners believe that Shannon warrants a complete re-evaluation in the context of any remaining resource potential.
