Two top bankers from Royal Bank of Scotland are at OTC.
The attendance of Derek Busby, regional director of Corporate Banking Aberdeen, and Kenny Stewart, managing director of Structured Finance, Scotland, means this is the bank’s 14th consecutive visit to the event.
Mr Busby said: “It allows us to meet with clients on their own patch, catch up with our colleagues in our Houston office who we work closely with, attend the show, and of course networking which tends to be a bit more informal than back home and as a result tends to forge closer relationships.
“One client we will be catching up with when in town will be marine transport services company GulfMark Offshore, which has its corporate headquarters in Houston. We recently refinanced an existing loan worth £90million, and played a role in concluding a new private placement of $300million (£185million) of senior notes.
“GulfMark operates one of the largest fleet of offshore vessels in the North Sea and 92 offshore vessels worldwide in total.
“This funding will assist GulfMark in continuing to expand its capability in the North Sea.”
Mr Busby said RBS also supports Aberdeen-headquartered companies operating internationally.
He said: “A perfect example of this is Xodus Group which has grown rapidly.”
Colin Manson, chief executive of international energy consultant Xodus, said: “Having just celebrated the company’s first anniversary in Houston in March, we are pleased to have established such a strong business presence in the local market.
“Our Houston office has already secured over $2million (£1.2million) in contracts in the Gulf of Mexico, and we appreciate the backing RBS has given us to help us achieve our objectives.”
