Aberdeen-based offshore cabin specialist Labtech Services is to re-introduce a hire fleet to meet growing demand in the North Sea and around the world.
Labtech had a rental fleet for the UK continental shelf (UKCS) until three years ago and yesterday the parent, Specialist Services, said it wanted to bring the service back.
Dubai-based Specialist Services bought Labtech from Global Energy Group for an undisclosed sum in October last year.
Labtech, which employs 90 people at two sites in Aberdeen, will have 15 rental units initially, but this is expected to increase to nearer 50 in the next 12 months in response to rising demand.
Specialist Services chief executive Ian Rogers said the re-introduction of the hire service would also create jobs.
He added: “When we acquired Labtech we inherited an already well-established name in the North Sea, with a strong reputation but a need for some stability.
“Our commitment to the company is long-term and the revitalisation of the hire fleet is an indication of our intent.”
Meanwhile, Lab-tech has sent a cementing house from Aberdeen Harbour to the Qidong Shipyard in China. It will be installed on a floating production vessel to be used in the Norwegian North Sea.
