Fast-expanding north-east oil service company Bowtech Products is exhibiting at OTC for the first time.
The firm recently picked up a global export award from Subsea UK, but has yet to properly crack the American market.
Bowtech, founded in 1989 by managing director Steve Bowring and sales director Mike Winstanley, designs and makes vision systems, including cameras.
Mr Winstanley said the bulk of the firm’s work was providing equipment for remotely operated vehicles used by the oil industry.
He said: “Although this is our first booth at OTC, we have supported the show for years and are showing our latest technology.
“Many of the people coming by our stand are new to us and we have had some good inquiries.”
The sales director revealed that Bowtech staff numbers had recently climbed to nearly 40 and could reach 70 by end of next year. Turnover is expected to hit around £6million this year and as much as £8million next year.
Exports make up about 70% of current turnover.
Expansion at the firm means it will soon be moving into new offices in the Aberdeen area. Mr Winstanley said: “We are reaching saturation point within the current facilities in Dyce.
“We are using temporary facilities as required until the new building planned for 2013 is ready for us to occupy.
“This will provide three times the space for us to grow into.”
Bowtech cameras range in price from a few hundred pounds to £50,000-plus, with features including 3D and high definition.
The sales director said the cost depended on the numbers made, the quality or sensitivity of them and client specifications.
Other Scottish exhibitors include pipeline life-extending specialist Swagelining.
The Glasgow company is displaying its patented technology which delivers polymer-lining solutions for the prevention of internal corrosion in new and existing pipelines.
Stephen Barnes, managing director of Swagelining, said: “OTC is an ideal opportunity for us to showcase our game-changing products, processes and applications. We expect to raise a few eyebrows over the next few years.”
