Faroe Petroleum said yesterday drilling had started on the Clapton prospect in the Norwegian North Sea.
The Aberdeen-based oil and gas explorer is 40% owner and operator of Clapton, which lies just a few miles east of the Eldisk East field and about six miles north of the Valhall field.
It is Faroe’s first operated well in Norwegian waters.
Partners in the development include Dana Petroleum Norway, which owns 20%, Lundin Norway (18%), Norwegian Energy Company (12%) and Det Norske Oljeselskap (10%).
The well is being drilled using the Maersk Guardian jack-up rig.
Faroe chief executive Graham Stewart said: “We are pleased to announce the spudding of Faroe Petroleum’s first operated well in Norway.
“This is an exciting period for Faroe Petroleum, with three high-impact exploration wells drilling at the same time.
“We look forward to the results of the Cooper well in the Norwegian North Sea (Faroe 30%) and the North Uist exploration well west of Shetland (Faroe 6.3%) together with our own-operated Clapton well.”
