Norwegian oil-field engineering group Aker Solutions said yesterday it wanted to add 1,300 people to its UK workforce.
The firm has 400 employees at its London offices but wants to take that figure to 1,700 by 2015.
Aker also has 2,500 employees in the Aberdeen area and said last month it aimed to increase this by 500.
The firm’s London office has been focusing recently on the £14million front-end engineering design contract that Aker is working on for Statoil’s Mariner field.
Oyvind Eriksen, executive chairman of Aker, said the company’s expansion in London was in response to high demand in all key oil and gas regions across the world.
Prime Minister David Cameron held talks with Mr Eriksen during a visit to Norway yesterday and also met Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in Oslo.
The pair signed an energy pact to boost the number of long-term gas supply deals between the two countries, and the agreement also opens the door for joint exploitation of the Arctic’s oil and gas reserves and renewable energy technology.
