Energy-industry entrepreneur Graham Hacon has bought a training company south of the border and now plans to expand its operations to Aberdeen.
Mr Hacon has paid an undisclosed sum for Eastern Training Services (ETS), a provider of technical vocational training to the energy, construction engineering and manufacturing industries.
ETS, based in Suffolk, employs 16 people, but numbers are expected to rise with the Granite City expansion.
The firm was owned previously by John Harris, who has retired.
Mr Hacon, owner of the Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth based 3sun Group, said: “My industry experience is very closely aligned with that of ETS and I am passionate in supporting training and development, particularly for the flourishing renewables industry.
“Our plans are to consolidate the ETS position in the east of England with expansion into north-east Scotland.
“We are currently looking for a suitable training facility in Aberdeen city and plan to establish a base employing up to four people there by the end of the year.
“The primary focus in Aberdeen will undoubtedly be on the energy industry.”
James Hall, the new operations manager at ETS, is looking forward to growing the business following the deal.
He said: “The company has built up a very well-established reputation through its breadth of experience, first-class service and professional approach.
“With this acquisition, we hope to continue expanding and working with new customers, while continuing to offer the highest-quality service to our existing clients.”
ETS will operate as a separate entity to 3sun Group, which specialises in delivering products and services to the oil and gas, marine and renewable sectors and employs 175 people.
