Engineering service company Alfa Laval has moved into new premises in Aberdeen after £3million of investment.
The firm said yesterday it had opened a service centre in the Granite City to be closer to clients in sectors including oil and gas and distilleries.
Alfa, which provides products focused on its heat-transfer, separation and fluid-handling technologies, held an open day at the Dyce offices and workshop yesterday.
The Swedish firm employs 17 people in the north-east and about 170 across the UK. Its UK HQ is at Camberley, in Surrey, and turnover from its British operations is expected to be around £70million this year. The business said it had taken on the Scotia House site on a 15-year lease.
Robin Stark, Alfa’s divisional manager for process technology in the UK, said the length of the lease underlined the company’s long-term commitment to the Granite City.
Mr Stark, also Alfa’s senior manager in Aberdeen, said: “We have had offices in Aberdeen since 1989, but we wanted to open a new service centre here because a large amount of the business being dealt with in Camberley was coming from the north-east.
“We wanted this facility to be as close to the market as possible, because it means we can invite customers in to see what we do and also cut down on our carbon footprint when transporting products.”
