Oil giant BP is believed to be nearing a £7.4billion settlement with US authorities as it seeks to draw a line under the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
The group hopes to unveil a deal with the US Department of Justice by September, a report said yesterday. BP has already provided £23.8billion to cover many of the costs after the disaster, which killed 11 workers in April 2010.
