Sir Ian Wood was described as “one of Scotland’s greatest industrialists” yesterday as business leaders paid tribute to the departing Wood Group chairman.
Oil and Gas UK chief executive Malcolm Webb said it was the Aberdeen entrepreneur who came up with the idea of creating the industry association.
He added: “Sir Ian is a shining example for all who work in the industry and, like all truly great leaders, he will leave the strongest of legacies, both within Wood Group and the wider oil and gas industry, on which we all can and must continue to build.”
Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future chairman Tom Smith said: “Sir Ian must rank as one of Scotland’s greatest industrialists.
“His legacy stretches beyond Aberdeen to the global oil and gas industry.”
Global Energy Group chairman Roy MacGregor said his family business aspired to reach the scale of Wood Group.
“There is no doubt Sir Ian Wood’s commitment to the UK’s oil and gas industry, Wood Group and Aberdeen over the past 45 years has been enormous,” he said
“His great determination, knowledge and influence has been so important to so many people.”
Taqa Bratani managing director Leo Koot said: “I would like to congratulate Sir Ian on his successes and I wish him well in his retirement.”
