Wintershall’s Kakelborg prospect found hydrocarbons but will be plugged and abandoned as a dry well, said partner North Energy.
It said Wintershall Norway was now in the process of abandoning the well, in licence PL 370 in the Norwegian North Sea. Drilling had started on July 5.
The well on Kakelborg was the first of a total of four wells planned for North Energy for the next six months. Its next well is planned to be drilled in the third quarter on the gas/condensate prospect in Jette PL385 in the Norwegian Sea, where Statoil is the operator.
North Energy has a 10% stake in the Kakelborg license. Wintershall Norway is the operator with an ownership of 40%. The other partners in the well are Agora, with 30% and Concedo with 20%.
