Cobalt International Energy’s Cameia-2 well drilled to appraise the Cameia discovery offshore Angola on block 21 has succeeded in defining the areal extent of the field and determining the oil-water contact in the deeper Cameia structure than the lowest known oil observed in the Cameia-1 well.
The company said Cameia-2 is also intended to test deeper oil potential in untested zones.
The well was drilled some 3.5km south of the Cameia-1 pre-salt discovery well to a target total depth of 5,475m (17,96ft) in basement. Logging results have confirmed the presence of a large hydrocarbon accumulation in what is a high quality reservoir, and has found that the lowest known oil is at least 135m deeper than that observed in Cameia-1.
