Aberdeen-based Helix Well Ops said yesterday it would recruit 60 people after adding a third vessel to its fleet.
The subsea well-intervention specialist said it needed to take on 50 offshore workers and 10 staff onshore in the coming months after signing a three-year charter for the Skandi Constructor.
Well Ops, which has a 70-strong workforce in Aberdeen and a further 300 offshore, said it would take control of the well-intervention vessel next spring.
The firm said it needed the 393ft monohull ship, owned by DOF Subsea, because of rising demand for its services in the North Sea and other regions including west Africa.
Steve Nairn, Well Ops’ regional vice president of Europe and Africa, said: “Well Ops is extremely proud to announce the addition of a third vessel to our fleet and it underlines our commitment to providing well-intervention services.
“Skandi Constructor strengthens our offering internationally and expands our well intervention service capability.”
Well Ops already operates the Well Enhancer and MSV Seawell, and said it had already signed a string of contracts for the two vessels with North Sea operators for work over the next three years. Mr Nairn said: “This is an exciting time for the company and the demand that we are witnessing is illustrative of the level of service and expertise that we can offer clients.
“As operators continually seek to make their operations more time and cost efficient, it is encouraging that more are turning to monohull vessels to conduct well-intervention work.”
Well Ops is a business unit of Houston-based Helix Energy Solutions Group.
