Around 1,400 people attended Scotland’s big night out to celebrate the energy industry.
Saturday’s annual Press and Journal Energy Ball, held in association with haulage firm Grampian Continental, was the biggest in its five-year history.
The event, held at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, attracted guests from near and far and went on until early yesterday morning.
Those attending the ball, which had sold out three months previously, enjoyed an evening of top-class food and entertainment.
Damian Bates, editor of the Press and Journal, said: “What a spectacular night. The Energy Ball is one of the great events of the year and is firmly established in the social calendar.
“The music, food and company were absolutely superb, with many commenting on their way home how great it was.”
The official charity for the night was, once again, Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal.
The ball will give a boost to the campaign which is raising £3million for a new centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The facility, which will provide practical and emotional support to people with cancer and their loved ones, is expected to open next year. The total raised at Saturday’s event was more than £31,200, up from £30,000 last year.
Organiser George Walker said: “This was the best Energy Ball we have had so far.
“Everyone was delighted with how it went and the good mix of entertainment. People were even signing up for sponsorships and tables for next year before they left last night.
“Planning has already begun for the 2013 event.”
