Two of the biggest players in the oil and gas industry have lined up a programme of events during the British Science Festival.
Principal sponsors BP and Shell have organised a series of thought-provoking sessions from September 4 to 9.
At the Belmont Cinema on September 4, BP will premiere Cows and Cars, a film that asks if we really need to make a choice between food and fuel.
In Energy Sustainability Beyond Climate Change – to be held at Aberdeen University on September 7 – BP’s chief scientist, Ellen Williams, will discuss how we can meet the rising demand for fuel while managing the world’s precious natural resources.
During the drop-in workshop Moving Materials, which will be presented by BP at the Beach Ballroom on September 8 and 9, participants will be challenged to move fluid from a well at sea to a storage facility on land, to help understand the movement of oil from the North Sea.
Shell will wade into the energy debate with a talk entitled The Natural Gas Revolution at Aberdeen University on September 4. It will explore how major international projects are helping to meet the growing demand for energy.
BP and Shell will also host a joint talk on September 6 called Making the Most of Science – An Energy Industry View. The session, at Aberdeen University, will explore whether we realise the true value and commercial worth of the UK’s science and research and development leadership.
Tickets for all events in the British Science Festival can be bought at www. britishsciencefestival.org by calling 08456 807207 or at the Box Office at Aberdeen Music Hall in the city’s Union Street.
