Due to the delay in delivery of the its floating production unit, the $6.2billion Goliat development in the Norwegian Barents Sea may not now start up until Q3 2014.
Operator Eni said that most key project areas are progressing as planned, but that the development of the production facility has met challenges and increased complexity. These are mainly associated with technological innovations of the production facility though the collapse of the production floater’s designer, Sevan Marine, will have had an impact too.
The pioneering Barents Sea project is expected to produce 170million barrels of oil over a period of 15 years.
