Tullow Oil has started drilling a second exploration well onshore northwestern Kenya on block 13T as a follow-up to its Ngamia-1 well drilled in the Turkana region block 10BB about 30km east of this wellsite.
The company considers Twiga-1 to be less risky than the Ngamia-1, which proved to be a major oil discovery that is currently undergoing production testing.
Twiga-1 is being drilled with the Weatherford 804 rig to a total depth of some 3,000m ((9,843ft) and is expected to take several months to drill and complete. According to Martin Mbogo, Tullow’s managing director for Kenya, the Twiga well is expected to tap into a different reservoir from the one penetrated by the Ngamia-1.
