Cosalt Offshore said yesterday it had transformed its Aberdeen premises to meet demand.
The provider of lifting, tooling and maritime services to the oil and gas industry worked with the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service, part of Scottish Enterprise, to analyse the allocation of resources and identify bottlenecks.
Cosalt said that, as a result, it had completely redesigned its mechanical workshop, introducing an automated conveyer and monorail system, allowing for the significant reduction of manual handling and increased productivity.
The firm employs 245 people in Aberdeen.
Chief executive Rod Buchan said: “The new workshop was designed entirely by Cosalt Offshore staff who handled every aspect from layout to procurement of equipment, fabrication of infrastructure and the installation of electrical systems.
“The return on investment in the workshop, along with the other new facilities that have recently been introduced, will be significant. We now have the necessary capacity to fully service the increased levels of activity expected in the North Sea throughout 2012.”
The company also has a new on-site training centre. Mr Buchan said: “Having a dedicated training centre ensures our employees benefit from training tailored to meet the requirements of each role. It also allows new employees to be trained to Cosalt Offshore standards and practice skills prior to joining their departments.”
