Australian oil services giant WorleyParsons is opening its first operational base in Scotland.
The Aberdeen office aims to have a team of 40 people, but this will rise as the operation grows.
WorleyParsons and its Intecsea unit have been working on their entry to the Granite City for more than two years.
Initial investment on planning, infrastructure, recruitment and staff will exceed £1million.
The group has seven sites south of the border. Its UK head office is in London.
WorleyParsons offers a range of skills and services, but said the Granite City operation would offer specific services to suit the local market, including its Intecsea business which is involved in floating systems, offshore pipelines and subsea production systems. Neil McMillan, location manager for WorleyParsons in Aberdeen, said: “Every office is part of a global structure that exists in an enabling framework of systems, procedures and governance, but it is also right in front of the customer. This means we understand their businesses and can talk to them in their own language.
“The Aberdeen office will consist of a core team of capable individuals who understand what customers need and can deliver it.”
Mr McMillan said the Granity City team would be able to tap into 40,000 people throughout the company and bring whatever skills are needed.
He added: “We are offering a technical consultancy at the front end of projects.
“Having the subsea capability of Intecsea fully integrated is a big plus for us.”
