Peterhead firm Maritime Developments aims to grow its workforce by 50% next year after extending its premises and appointing an operations director.
Maritime, which designs and produces engineering equipment for the energy industry, recently acquired a workshop, office and yard facility next to its 33,000sq ft base in Wilson Street.
The additional space will be used to house the rapidly expanding electrical services division.
Maritime said yesterday its subsea team of 20 to 30 was likely to grow in the next year.
George Mackintosh has joined the business as operations director, switching from a similar position he held with international energy and engineering services business Aquatic.
Mr Mackintosh, who has more than 21 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, said: “The opportunity to introduce innovative solutions to an ever-changing market was extremely appealing. There are exciting times ahead due to the demand for our services and the constant drive to enhance the safety of people working on vessels.”
Maritime specialises in the provision of deck equipment solutions for vessels to support the deployment and retrieval of subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines for the oil and gas industry, and cables for the renewable-energy sector.
The company is extending its capability to deliver additional electrical and hydraulic services following its expansion.
in Wilson Street, which gives it 13,500sq ft of additional yard area and 4000sq ft for an electrical workshop.
Mr Mackintosh added: “We will be recruiting experienced personnel to enhance our operations.
“However, we also have a track record of taking on apprentices and helping them gain qualifications at Banff and Buchan College.”
The most recent annual figures from the company showed turnover more than doubled during the year to the end of March 2011 to £4.7million, from £2.3million previously.
